At Kingston he met Mary Malenoir, RA Schools, Rome Scholar, RE and they later married and worked in Ireland, Rome, Greece and Paris, they continue to work together. Michael Fairclough's work has been recognized by several awards and prizes, among them a Royal Academy of Arts David Murray Award for Landscape 1960; The Rome Scholarship for Printmaking 1964; A Hunting Art Prizes Exhibition prize 1987 and First prize at the Chichester Open Painting Exhibition 1997.
