Neon Blood Diptych - 2014 - Mixed Media on Canvas - Original Art - 22"x22"x1.5 (see below for size). Each canvas is 22"x22"x1.5. When placed next to each other as intended the width of the entire piece becomes approximately 45 across. This also accounts for the 1 of wall space between both canvasses.
A diptych I made of two pieces meant to be displayed as shown in the photos. You could always put them in frames (or a combined frame), but they are supposed to be side by side in this order. I took wood and built the stretcher bars. Then I stretched canvas over them. Next I sprayed both of them with neon hot pink spray paint, but left the far right blank and only gessoed at the end to look unfinished on purpose.
I took acrylic black and white paint and made some splatters and drips. I then used screen printing techniques and printed the words neon and blood in 8-bit font over top of the painting several times.
The screen printing ink I used was acrylic pased so it didn't interfere with any of the other materials as they are all acrylic. I was thinking about old video games and 80s/90s aesthetic in movies and general design. The sheer amount of neon and blood that was in old video games and movies of that era is interesting since I love it all, but it is objectively strange that these things should be intertwined. Also I thought this diptych just looked cool.
