Jonathan Gibbs graduated from the Slade School in 1978. He draws, paints, and makes prints.
He leads the Illustration department at the Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh, where he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate art students. Jonathan Gibbs's recent work includes works on paper, depictions of rooms & objects, as well as wood engravings. These are imaginative, often abstracted, but always based upon how he perceives space & form. His family comes from East Norfolk, and this place has been a considerable influence on his work. However, this exhibition includes drawings made in Greece, Scotland, and China, as well as a series of wood engravings that depict still-life, patterns and forms from nature. In his paintings, Jonathan Gibbs uses oil on wood with a gesso ground, as well as watercolour and graphite on paper. To The Jade Emperors Mountain, Rowley Gallery, London.
