A mid-20th century modern abstract painting. By JOHN UZZELL EDWARDS, known Welsh artist. Entitled: "The Force That Through The Green Fuse Drives The Flower".Vibrant mixed media, including collage. Hanging cord with screw-in eyes. Originally exhibited in Tenby, Wales. Dimensions: 66 cm high x 54.5 cm wide. Condition: in VERY GOOD clean condition; frame has one or two marks and yellowing commensurate with age. John Uzzell Edwards was born in 1934 in Deri, Wales.
He moved to Paris in 1956 where he followed his interest in painting, visiting galleries and museums. Uzzell Edwards lived and worked in Rhiwfawr and Tenby. In 1998 he formed Ysbryd - Spirit Wales, exhibiting with other Welsh painters including Brendan Stuart Burns and Martyn Jones. He died in March 2014.Uzzell Edwards was inspired by Welsh and Celtic art. He described his technique as being concerned with pure painting rather than picture making. He exhibited widely across the UK and internationally. 1966: Awarded the Granada Arts Fellowship by York University. 1968: Received the British Prix de Rome at the British School in Rome.
