Joe Sam'84 Mixed Media Black Deputy Sheriff Listed African-American Artist

Interesting 1984 mixed media (watercolor, gouache, ink, collage) by noted African-American artist Joe Sam b. Sam has exhibited widely since the 1980s, including exhibitions at Joyce Gordon Gallery in Oakland, Museum of Afrcan-American Art in Los Angeles, Axis Gallery in San Francisco, Triton Museum of Art, and many others. He has also done numerous public art commissions.

Sam's work is in numerous public collections. He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. This mixed media work of "Bass Reaves, Black deputy sheriff in Oklahoma 1882" is from Sam's Black West Series.

" It is signed and dated lower right and measures 9 7/8" x 9. It is in good condition though it's possible varnish has yellowed in spots. An interesting hand-written letter written by Sam is attached to the back of the frame. Please see my other auctions for more fine paintings and prints.
