Presenting an original artwork by Evan Kaufman. Medium: Watercolor and colored pencil on handmade paper. Signature: This artwork is signed on the back. For optimal preservation professional framing using acid-free materials is recommended. One of the biggest challenge an artist faces is what to make.
I recall a professor telling me in art school that you should make what you can't avoid. Years have flickered by trying to understand this problem, always feeling like the solution lies just beyond the horizon. Our minds are shaped by the context of our lives and in the same way, so is the art one makes.
The not knowing where I'm going or what I'm doing within the blank frame is what keeps me coming back. An unobstructed self is the creator of these works, a projection of my essential nature.
When I was a child I had a deep interest in architecture, its outsized impact on the way I visual think resonates within everything I make. My past vocations in the automotive industry, information technology and commercial photography are more recent sources of imagination. All the philosophy books I've read and all the hours sitting zazen floating away with each new mark.
