Frida Kahlo Textile Sculpture, Mixed Media Diorama, Artist Doll With Animals

This is a handmade stitched textile Frida Kahlo doll and mixed media diorama. Made by me, in my other job as an artist. The body and limbs are machine stitched, the features are hand stitched and painted, and the limbs are jointed with mother of pearl buttons. Her hair is copious amounts of cotton/silk embroidery thread, stitched & glued piece by piece before being braided and arranged with handcut, stiffened fabric dahlias.

She wears a white cotton and lace top with embroidered appliqued flowers, a full red skirt and a full length cotton petticoat edged in cotton lace. Her printed cotton rebozo (not pictured) is lined with yellow cotton hand stitched with cerise silk thread and edged in cerise satin. She has a ceramic, glass and rolled-paper bead necklace & bracelets and'gold' hoop earrings. Her little parrot and monkey (based on creatures in her portraits) sit with her. Parrot is made with individually attached ruffled feathers that contrast nicely with his iridescent plumage and golden thread lined tail.

Monkey is made from wire & papier mache with a painted green scarf. He is built to hang around Frida's neck. Frida comes with her own self portrait on a day of the dead easel with a blood-spurting beaded heart and green foliage. There's a papier mache prickly pear cactus in a day of the dead style clay pot, featuring three Frida skull portraits in her various costumes.. Lastly is a painted canvas amputated leg bursting into life with a flower on top. Frida is about 15 inches tall. Ready to hang via a wire loop at the back of her head, or she can sit.
