Coloured Verre Eglomise Mirror in an Antique French Silverleaf Frame Landscape /

An interesting abstract art Verre Eglomise' Mirror in an Antique French Silver water gilded frame. The frame consists of silver leaf layered over a gesso and black bole surface, lots of the black bole shows through the aged silver.

There is a small nibble to the left hand bottom corner of the frame. The glass in the frame is a thick piece of glass which has been laboriously water gilded in the verre eglmoise method with layers of silver leaf which have been oxidised using chemicals to create in parts, an aged and cloudy effect and worn back where different layers of coloured silver leaf have been applied using the same method and again worn back and more coloured silver added. Along with the silver leaf there is also black, bronze, marbled red, aqua, greens, grey, pink champagne and more coloured silver leaf along with pure gold leaf consisting of gold, white gold and red gold as well as platinum and palladium leaf.

So all in all, a huge and varied amount of leaf has been applied to the reverse of the glass which has then been sealed in to protect it. A lovely bright, luxurious and different interior design piece which will create a cloudy reflection in parts and the colours change slightly dependant upon the light. At present it has Metal loop fittings and is hung with rope, but it might be wise to use bracket fittings to the wall as they are very sturdy and will sit the mirror more flush to the wall.
