In accordance with the philosophy of Christo & Jeanne Claude, at the end of the 16-day display, the exhibit and all the materials used to create The Gates, such as metals, aluminum, vinyl and fabric, were donated, shredded, melted and recycled into carpet padding, traffic cones and many other items.
