Up for your consideration is a Continental Hand-Painted Paper, Silk and Gilt Thread Panel. Late 18th century, possibly AUstrian. It depicts a recumbent Mary Magdalene holding a staff, crucifix and red cross, dressed in colorful robes, and a cherub in the background. 8 1/8 x 11 1/2 inches. Frame: 13" x 9.75".
The piece is in very good condition, complete, and the colors remain bold and vibrant. There appears to be an area of disintegration to the brown thread on the white curtain, just above the figure's head and some possible light staining to that area. There is moderate wear to the black paint on the frame. Otherwise, the piece is in excellent condition, and presents beautifully. It is much earlier, but reminds me of a Gustave Klimt composition.
