Lee Godie Chicago Outsider Artist Mixed Media Portrait of Woman on Canvas

This listing is for an original mixed media piece by Chicago Outsider Artist, Lee Godie (9/1/08 - 3/4/94). Born Jamot "Emily" Godee, she used the name Lee Godie as a self-styled & mixed media artist. She was self-taught who was active in Chicago during the late 1960s until the early 1990s. This piece features a portrait of a woman, which appears to be drawn with ballpoint pen, with big eyes and a tear falling from one, a scalloped neckline and a cross necklace around her neck.

The upper left hand side has "Staying Alive" written in pen, which we assume is the title of the piece. On the lower right hand corner, the piece is signed "Artist Emily - Godie". Around the woman are what appears to be orange & red leaves, colored with watercolor. This piece is on canvas, which is not stretched onto a frame. 26" x just under 29".

The backside also has some writing, which appears to be written by the artist. Original Lee Godie, which appears to be a mix of watercolor & ballpoint pen. Some spotting/running of the color on the canvas, which is not stretched onto a frame. Please view all pictures & please message with questions.
