This artwork is a mixed media display celebrating the Intel 4004 and its supporting chipset: The 4001 ROM, The 4002 RAM, and the 4003 I/O Expander. Introduced in 1971, the Intel 4004 was the worlds first microprocessor, and the 4001, 4002, 4003 were the first microprocessor chipset.

Each of these chips did double duty providing multiple functions for the 4004. The Busicom 141-pf was the first calculator/computer to use an Intel 4004. It also used all of the chips of the 4004 chipset, except for the 4002-2. This 11"x14" artwork includes several items. It has a large image of the 4004 Intel chip.

The center picture, on the right, shows an x-ray view of a 4004 chip package and shows how the 4004 silicon chip is suspended in the plastic package and is connected to its leads. On the back are the artists signature and a narrative describing the artwork and the chip. Also, the artwork includes actual working chips as follows.

The Intel P4004 Microprocessor chip. The Intel P4001 ROM chip. The Intel P4002-1 RAM chip, and.

The Intel P4003 Serial I/O chip. Each of these P chips are in a black polyresin 16 lead DIP (Dual Inline Package). These artworks are the creation of ChipScapesTM artist Steve Emery.

ChipScapesTMare photographs taken of computer chips, boards, and other computer artifacts. They are sort of chip landscapes, or ChipScapesTM for short.

Most often a macro-lens or microscope is used with special lightning to achieve these unique artworks. Intel, IBM, Fairchild, DEC, Signetics, Intersil, AMD, Zilog, Motorola, MOS, NEC, Texas Instruments, are some of the great chip making companies. Chips like the Intel 4004, MOS 6502, Zilog Z80, AMD 2901, IBM PowerPC and others have changed the way people work and play.

Are dedicated to preserving and sharing these computing and communication technologies that changed the world. Works of Art are fine collectible artworks.

Would make a great gift for the nerd, geek, engineer, programmer, IT executive, or just that technology savvy person in your life. Limited edition size of 50. (production may be further limited by lack of availability of chips).

The artwork is framed in an 12"x16"x1.5 black shadow box frame, with glass. All framing materials are acid free. A narrative about the artwork that includes the artists signature is placed on the back of the artwork. Chips and other artifacts are mounted with threads and/or acid free materials. Are a new and exciting art form with bright colors, bold patterns, and interesting textures. Have been recognized as unique in their relevance to our cyber culture and our pop culture.
