Frances Kornbluth Signed Mixed Media & Collage-Abstract New England Seascape

Titled Private Beach, and was created in 1994. The ceruleans and sea-foam colors lend this painting an unmistakable seaside atmosphere, but the delicately layered cloth and fine textures make the composition especially striking.

Painting itself measures 8.5x 12 inches, 18.5 x 15.5 inches with the frame. Wired and ready to hang. Handwritten personal inscription is on the back of the frame, along with the provenance: Showcase for Collage, Providence, Rhode Island, 1995. Condition of this painting appears to be overall excellent: colors are rich and are in their original unfaded state.

Note, this painting has not been removed from its original frame for further inspection. Frame has some light wear.

This is an exquisite contemporary Expressionist painting that will make a fabulous addition to any fine art collection. Would also be perfect for any vacation home. Frances Kornbluth was born in New York City on July 26, 1920. As a child, Kornbluth developed a passion for the piano, and graduated from Brooklyn College in 1940 with a degree in music. It was Tam who encouraged Kornbluth to exhibit her work at the Brooklyn Museum and the City Center Gallery, in addition to introducing her to Maines Monhegan Island in 1957she would later credit Tam with: defining me as the artist I had never envisioned becoming. Kornbluth also studied with Robert Richenburg (1917 - 2006) at the Pratt Institute, where she received a masters degree in 1962. In 1969, Kornbluth and her family moved from Merrick, NY to North Grosvenordale, CT, where she would maintain a winter studio for the rest of her life. Imagery from Monhegan Islandincluding Lobster Cove, Burnt Head, White Head and Ice Pondrecur in different ways throughout her work. The Dominican Republic is another location that recurs in Kornbluths work.

She was an artist in residence at Altos de Chavon, an artists' village in La Romana, during the fall of 1985. On May 26, 2014, Kornbluth died in Dayville, CT at the age of 93.
