Ritter studied at the University of Kansas and the Art Students League and Columbia University in New York. He opened the Laurel Gallery in the 1940s, a landmark New York gallery showing important New York modernists. He exhibited actively during the 1940s including exhibitions at Salons of America, Uptown Gallery and Laurel Gallery in New York, Art Institute of Chicago, Corcoran Gallery, and many others.
He moved to Ogunquit Maine in the late 1950s, becoming an active member of the Ogunquit Art Colony and was president of the Ogunquit Art Association for several years. His work is in the collections of Brooklyn Museum, Ogunquit Museum of American Art, the Library of Congress, Museum of Modern Art, and others. This mixed media (ink, watercolor, and gouache) is signed lower right and is in good condition.
