Gainsbourg 2017' by C215 Christian Guemy - a unique 500 French Francs banknote part of an edition of 100 notes. Each note is spray painted with a handcut stencil of the iconoclast singer, Serge Gainsbourg and burnt with a cigarette lighter as a reference to a famous episode on French television with Gainsbourg.
The note is as issued and is in perfect condition, unframed, and also features C215's iconic box signature sprayed symbol. As well as the unique burnt edges, this is the only note to be stencilled on the reverse, the rest of the 99 edition features the artwork on the front of the note. Serge Gainsbourg was a French singer, songwriter, pianist, film composer, poet, painter, screenwriter, writer, actor and director. Christian Guémy, also known as C215 is a Parisian street artist focused on stencil graffiti.
Born in 1973, C215 started spray painting in 2005 and is today one of the finest, and most productive stencil artists on the street art scene. His elaborate stencils, if outside a gallery, appear in the streets of various cities all over the globe, such as New Delhi, London, Istanbul, Fes, Rome, Barcelona, and Paris.
Lighting up the urban spaces they decorate, every stencil has a reason to exist in its specific, well thought place and all his pieces are hand cut and sprayed originals with a mix of found objects. C215's favourite topic is portraits, as faces have a universal message that everybody, no matter who, will understand and be moved by. The item will be posted flat via.
