If you're interested, please make us an offer - every one will be carefully considered! This sign came from the R-14 cars of the NY subway, which were built in 1948 by American Car & Foundry. These cars ran on all the IRT routes starting with the Flushing Line. All were out of passenger service by the early 1980's. Each car had 2 "signboxes" on the front of the car over the vestibule door.
Inside the signbox resided a full rollsign. This sign has the rare readings of Polo Grounds & Ditmars Ave (rare on an IRT sign). The section is made of black Keystone (shiny) cloth with white printed lettering. The sign has 30 readings. This section measures 22 inches long by 19 inches high by 12 inches deep. This sign is in great condition. There is some original subway dirt (no extra charge). Also, there is a small repair at the Times Square reading, a small hole by the Main St reading & the 149th St reading has some staining. Please check out the photos. This sign would be great for bar or restaurant decoration, dorm room, den, etc. Also makes that one of a kind gift - you can't find this at Sears or Target. Have fun touring old New York.
